To conduct IEC Activities to Identify & Mobilize the Target Communities for Getting the Construction of IHHL {Individual Household Latrines} under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) in Saharanpur.

Project Background & Objectives: The Government of India (GOI) launched the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) [SBM (U)], with the vision of ensuring hygiene, waste management, and sanitation across the nation, as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary, to be celebrated in the year 2019. SBM (Urban) is being implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MHUA).
• Elimination of open defecation
• Eradication of Manual Scavenging by converting unsanitary toilets to sanitary
• Modern and Scientific Municipal Solid Waste Management
• Effecting behavioral change regarding healthy sanitation practices
• Awareness generation about sanitation and its linkage with public health
• Capacity Augmentation for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to create an enabling environment for private sector participation.

Project location: Saharanpur, Shamli, and Muzaffarnagar districts

Activities completed and methodology followed:

Major Activities:
• Door-to-door survey to identify households for and verify constructed/ under-construction and unconstructed IHHL. The respective ULBs under the assignee’s Area-of-Operations provide the details as per their records.
• Mobilize targeted households to generate demand, help & motivate them till the construction is completed, and promote its sustained usage.
• Continuous monitoring of the progress in the construction of IHHL and increasing the number of IHHL.
• Conduct the Information, Education & Communication (IEC) activities, and the exercise Behavior Change Communication (BCC) among the target and potential communities to achieve the target of 100% IHHL, and its sustained usage in a proper manner including maintaining hygiene and disciplined consumption of water for cleaning purposes. Monitoring and follow-up of assets developed under SBM. (IHHL)
• Be an interface between the implementing agencies and the SMD - SBM and other relevant bodies, which are responsible for construction and related activities e.g., Jal Nigam, Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), targeted and potential households, etc. for the purpose of efficient execution of the Project.
• Update the SMD-SBM and the concerned ULBs with periodic reports and process photographs with all relevant supporting documents per prescribed format along with a Ward-wise list of the beneficiaries under each ULB on the last day of each working month, thereby facilitating the development of an MIS by the SMD-SBM for reporting the work-progress by uploading the said details of the IHHL through the App.

• Awareness generation about sanitation and its linkage with public health
• Capacity Augmentation for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to create an enabling environment for private sector participation
