Selection of NGO to undertake various field activities about Sanitation and Waste Management in Noida (SBM - Noida)

Project Background & Objectives: Uttar Pradesh Sodic Land Reclamation III Project (UPSLR IIIP) is designed to reclaim 1, 30,000 hectaresof sodic lands in 28 sodic infested districts of the State of Uttar Pradesh. Manyof the holders of the sodic land, hail out from the most deprived and poorest section of the community and lack basic amenities. The project, therefore, is formulated considering all those parameters and activities which are expected to bring significant agriculture and socio-economic development to the project area. The project includes all the activities which are essential in a farming system approach for favorable changes in overall farm income. The project has five components out of which the first four are technical and the last pertains to the management of the project. These components are mentioned as under:

The major objectives of the project include

• The objective is to carry out project implementation in a participatory manner and nature the community institutions for establishing a group-based natural resource management system.
• Planning and implementation of the project interventions at the village level and in this process, they will work with the community institutions including the SIC, WUG, SHG, and other community institutions involved in the project implementation.
• To build the capacity of the farmers on reclamation technologies for sodic lands and strengthen the knowledge base of the community about various agriculture and livestock improvement-related technologies.
• To facilitate the community level decision-making process by imparting training and educating the community on technical and development issues and act as a bridge between the community and the project for hand-holding and technical backstopping.
• Induction of required skills and enhancement of existing skills of the project participants and other stakeholders.
• To educate project beneficiaries about their entitlements/rights, roles, and responsibilities in the project.
• To ensure that the distribution of inputs is made with transparency as per the entitlement list and to ensure that entitlements are reaching project beneficiaries.
• Organising meetings of WUG, SIC, Core Team, and WSHGs as per schedule chalked out based on reclamation activities.

Activities completed and methodology followed:
On-Farm Development and Land Treatment
• Mobilization of village communities
• Detailed mapping and classification of sodic lands
• Formation of water user groups (WUGs)
• On-farm development through land-leveling, bunding, and linking field drains to link and main drains
• Provision of shallow tube wells to help in reclamation operations and provide irrigation
• Application of chemical/organic amendments and plant nutrients to the soil
• Cultivation of rice-wheat-green manure crop.
• Improvement of Drainage Systems
• About 5,700 km of the drainage network would require rehabilitation
• Re-modeling and rehabilitation of main drains
• Maintenance of main drains
• Agriculture Support Services
• Training farmers ineffective land and water management practices
• Dissemination of improved agricultural technology and production practices through on-farm demonstrations
• Support for livestock production, including dairy development and small ruminants as appropriate
• Exposure visits, farmer fairs, animal health camps, and other “means” for rural communication and outreach
• Training and capacity building of line department staff and other relevant providers of support services to farmers.

Institutional Strengthening and Capacity Building for Market Access
• Mobilization and capacity building of community-based institutions like SHGs and producer groups (PGs)
• Support cluster-level producer groups for productive assets
• Investment support for productive assets
• Improving rural market infrastructure
•Organization of innovation forums.

Project Management:
• Establishing and supporting project units at the state and district levels
• Creating a project monitoring, evaluation, and learning system to regularly inform project staff and stakeholders of progress and processes
• Engaging the services of an external Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) agency to track project progress and confirm reporting from the project system
• Technical assistance to improve implementation and nurture innovations in that regard
• Liaising with project partner organizations, support organizations, external professional agencies, and the World Bank
• Documentation of project experience and its dissemination to the wider development community.

Results/outcomes achieved:
• Total of 72 villages are covered by Adarsh Seva Samiti under the intervention program.
• Total 3451 hectaresof sodic agriculture land area covered under the intervention.
• Total 884 Water Use Groups have been mobilized under the program.
• Total 213women SHGs have mobilized under the program.
• Total of 2386 women beneficiaries are associated with the program.
• Total 76.52 lakh rupees savings have been done by the SHG till December 2017.
• Total 150.74 lakh rupees inter loaning has been done by the women SHGs till December 2017.
• Total of 62 women SHGs are involved in the income generation activities and initiated new enterprises.
• Facilitate and coordinate amongst direct beneficiaries and other departments/institutions operating in the project villages.
• Assists in the dissemination of technologies amongst the 7292 direct beneficiaries.
• Mobilize and organize the beneficiaries into Water User Group (WUGs), Site Implementation Committee (SIC), Women Self Help Groups (WSHGs), Producers Organisation (PO), Producers’ Groups (PG), and established their linkage with the Gram Panchayat and line departments.
• Developed the mechanism for the maintenance of natural resources and infrastructure developed under the project.
• Record keeping of 854 WUGs SIC and ensuring Site development planning.
• Capacity building of the 7259 farmers on reclamation technologies for 3451 ha. sodic lands and strengthen the knowledge base of the community about various agriculture and livestock improvement-related technologies.
• Mapping of potential participating farmers.
• Formation of site implementation Committee.
• Preparation of Micro Plan and base line data.
• 370 boring sites identified, and bore was done in area.
• Facilitate the SHGs and linkage them with Banks.
