Designing and implementing the community-driven model for solid waste management, Hardoi
Project Background & Objectives: Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’s waste management and sanitation objectives graduallyget into the implementation process across Noida. The Noida Authority started various initiatives to make the city ODF and to provide a safe solid waste management system in the town. To establish the improved waste management system and improved sanitation services with open defecation-free Noida. Creating awareness, capacity building of sanitary works, CBOs, RWAs, and other stakeholders, achieve the state of ODF area, improve the hygienic conditions, strengthening Swachh Bharat Mission, complywith Swachh Survekshan, and preparation of recommendations.
Objectives of Project:
• Detailed survey regarding solid waste management and sanitation practices in Noida.
• Situation analysis of Solid Waste management system and sanitation precipices in Noida.
• To conduct service level studies/surveys to develop a detailed open defecation elimination plan and prepare a waste management plan for Noida.
• To conduct benchmarking survey to achieve ODF certification and ODF + & Swachh Sarvekshan 2019 and 2020.
• To achieve open defecation-free (ODF) Noida through affordable, appropriate technology and behavior change. The emphasis of the Project is the sustainable use of sanitation facilities.
• Compliance with Swachh Bharat Mission policies and develop a support system for Swachh Survekshan.
• To mobilize resident communities and bring awareness for waste management and safe sanitation and their behavioral change.
• To apply Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) method
• To help Authority to get the fund (partial grant) for toilet construction distributed in an appropriate manner so that no beneficiaries get neglected if so required.
• To mobilize urban households to construct individual latrines anduse community toilets/public toilets/individual household toilets.
• Skill development and capacity building of sector leaders, sanitary workers, RWAs, and other stakeholders.
• To maintain MIS, data and keep records of the sanitation activities
• Active participation and engagement of all ages, gender & economic groups of communities, including households, schools, health centers, leadership structures, RWAs, sanitary workers, volunteers, and other stakeholders to undertake ODF and solid waste management activities in their area.

Activities completed and methodology followed: Urban Planning
• Team has been divided in the area as per the planning done by the project manager.
• As per government norms of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan team worked on ODF Noida.
• Community consultations and Meetings on the Management of Solid Waste.
• Waste collection, segregation, and composting of biodegradable waste in the Transport Nagar
• Greenery Promotion Activities like plantation, park maintenance, etc.
• Educational Support to the Rag Picker Children in the Transport Nagar
• Participatory Management of Parks and water points in the Transport Nagar
• Pieces of trainings and workshop for the waste collection team
• Workshop and Training program of the street vendors in the Transport Nagar.
Methodology followed:
• All 10 work circles were approached simultaneously at various locations with dedicated 10 teams for sanitation awareness- ‘Mass Campaigning.’
• Practiced Triggering tools on all OD spots simultaneously in the morning and evening regularly for making Noida Open Defecation free – (CLTS Approach adopted)
• Formation of NigraniSamities, Bal SwacchtaSamities, and Swacchagrahi among volunteer citizens for regular monitoring & sustaining ODF status
• Identified defaulters for Penalties, Spot fines for OD/OU/Plastic-Use/BWGs, etc. (in coordination with Public Health Dept.)
• Quiz, Street Plays, Swacchta Games, Swachhta Pledges in schools and residential communities
• Organised Thematic Drives on Special Days (in accordance with the calendar by MoHUA)
• Created Mass Awareness & Disseminated info through Canopy groups, Swachhta Rath, Marathon, Gaurav Yatra, Street plays
• Intense D2D awareness, meetings, and workshops with RWAs/AoAs& Urban Villages (Mohalla Sabhas&SamudaikBaithak)
• Approached each commercial area to aware of waste segregation, composting, and management
• Weekly/ Monthly meetings with Authority (Sector 6) were organized to discuss the implementation issues and the activity progress in presence of all departmental heads of the authority which helped to gather the coordination and support with these implementing stakeholders.
Results/outcomes achieved:
• The team collected primary data from all 168 sectors constituting a total of 10 work circles in the intervention areas based on survey sampling in the initial phase.
• The required data about the city profile was uploaded online every month on the respective portals of Swachh Bharat Mission and Swachh Survekshan.
• To know the gap between Communities and the authorities conduct awareness programs with the communities.
• Collecting the group awareness data and amylase them after that provide the brief detail to the client.
• As per analyzing report Noida Authority develop infrastructure for sustainable sanitation.
• Provide knowledge of health & hygiene and their relation to cleanliness and sanitation through different platforms.
• Collecting citizen feedback on Swacch Noida for information on Swachh App.
• Providing the information through promotional activities on large scale to the living communities of Noida by Swachh Rath.
• Cultural and informative wall painting in different areas of Noida.
• Got three Star rating as the single city of UP through ODF++ rating in swachhbharatsarvekshan 2019.
